Fremont Bridge

Opened in 1973, the Fremont is the youngest of Portland’s Willamette River crossings. It’s beautiful design is due to the Marquam (I-5) Bridge’s ugliness—the Portland Art Commission was brought in to aid with design so there wouldn’t be such an uproar. (We Portlanders are very particular about our bridges!) Its gentle arch (once the longest tied-arch bridge in the world) dominates the skyline. And peregrine falcons nest on the underside of the span, look closely and you may see one soaring around the bridge!
