Eastbank Esplanade

A path lying along the east bank of the Willamette River between the Steel and Hawthorne, just opened back in 2001. This area was full of warehouses too, just like on the westside, and they were also torn down in the 60’s to make way for a freeway (Interstate 5). But unfortunately, that freeway still remains. But, they did manage to build a pathway regardless. Now you can cruise both banks of the river! There are some cool historical markers along the path. And the 1,200 ft. long floating walkway (just north of the Burnside Bridge) is the longest floating walkway in the United States. Waterfront Park is connected to the Eastbank Esplande by the pathways along the Steel Bridge (lower deck) and Hawthorne Bridge.
