Grant Park
Grant Park, the neighborhood, is named after Grant Park, the park, named after Grant School, named after Grant, the president. Pretty exciting, huh? Grant Park (the park) is fairly ordinary as far as Portland parks go, except for one exceptional landmark—the Ramona the Brave Statue Garden. The protagonist for the popular series of children’s books authored by Beverly Cleary, Ramona (and Cleary) adventured in this very neighborhood. Ramona’s fictional residence was on NE Klickitat St, just a few blocks north of the park. In fact, some of Ramona’s adventures involve this park! In 1995, Portland immortalized Ramona, her friend Henry, and her dog Ribsy by placing these bronze statues here.
