James John Cafe
8527 N Lombard St
503-285-4930
I’ve always imagined what it would be like to live in St. Johns, the far-flung Peninsula neighborhood that feels like (and at one time was) its own city. One thing that’s prevented me from moving there was the lack of decent coffee shops. Up until now. With the addition of an Anna Bannanas location just down the street, the James John Cafe ushers in the era of good coffee up there. (Unless you were satisfied with Starbucks, which means this may not be the right guidebook for you!) Serving the Stumptown and fresh baked pastries, the James John (not to be confused with the John St. Cafe) replaced a church-run cafe that used to occupy the space. And from inside you can look across Lombard and see the crown jewel of the ‘hood—Thee St. Johns Bridge! Old James John (Mr. St Johns to you) would be proud.
